Shrek / Black Hole - Spirit Zone
GMS
Classy stuff from those Growling Mad chaps. They may be running a risk of overkill with the amount of stuff slated for release this year, but when the quality's as high as this nobodys going to try and stop them. Shrek samples the movie to good effect a thunderous "What are ye doin in me swamp!?" signalling the start of a total kick ass trancefest. The trademark GMS rolling bass is accompanied by creaks aplenty and an odd and addictive high-end melody thats totally in keeping with their devout party-animal roots. The midsection features possibly the most wonderful boingy elasticated nonsense-line ever heard, and then that high-end comes back in with a crash. Make no mistake, this does the business and I strongly suspect that this will be caned on dancefloors everywhere this year. Black Hole on the flip doesnt live up to the A on sheer shitkicking value, but with its busy bassline, clattering percussion and smooth chords mixing with squelches to create an odd technoid melody, its likeable. Shrek is one of the most standout tracks of the year, and proof that this music still knows how to have a bloody good time.
