Wizzy Noise – Cyclotron – Candy Flip (Greece)
Sticking with a futuristic vibe with Wizzy Noise, but this is firmly of the Bladerunner school of sci-fi visionary-isms. And apologies for this review coming out late – we missed this by a few weeks, and as it came out at the same time as and was eclipsed by X Dream’s Irritant, you may well have missed it as well. Wizzy Noise’s take on the techno-trance fusion is miles apart from the competition, with a rhythm section that’s more Richie Hawtin and Jeff Mills than anything else. The album has a paranoid, close and cinematic feel to it, and all the way there’s an evident love for what they are doing and a distinct vibrancy of trying something new. Painful Memory is the clear standout, a dynamic and wide-scoped techno trance hybrid with all the right elements, taking you off into a distant and wonderful techno-utopia. It’s high-impact stuff, and a little intense and too-epic all in one go, but damn good music and very different to anything else you’ll hear.
