Once again Psymag meet Yellow Sunshine Explosion in the middle, with a satisfying collection of already-released psytrance. Except this one doesn’t have GOA on the front cover in big yellow letters.
Psychlopedia isn’t really aimed at DJs, although you’ll find most of these tracks decent enough to play out. Where else are you going to get Deviant Species’ gloriously nasty Iophant right next to Electric Universe’s knees-in-the-air Tune Up, one of the best tracks he’s done, and Phyx’s scratchy Soul Keeper next to Liquid & Dark Nebula’s Nosferatu.
It’s not bad stuff, even the inclusion of Panick, Bio-Tonic and one of the many nondescript remixes of S-Range’s Another Theory. Essentially Psychlopedia is, like the YSE albums it mimics, a digest of what’s been going on in fullon over the last few months.
It’s not going to set many pulses running, but if you haven’t bought anything in a year or so and are interested to see what’s happening, or if you’re looking for a present to buy for that cute girl you spotted at a party last week who doesn’t know a great deal about the “sc£n£”, then look no further.
