You might like this, but will you notice it? That’s the question

A cursory glance over the tracklist doesn’t really suggest anything exciting on this debut release from new French label Mandala.

The coverart, album name, and even the label’s name, are so nondescript that this is likely to slip way under most people’s radars. Which is something of a pity, as the release isn’t all that bad.

Yes the music is fullon, and yes the tracks by Perplex, Elec3 vs Ananda Shake sound more or less as you’d expect them to. More interesting is Total Sickness’ Armonico Rmx, with a drop that’ll spark up a dancefloor nicely, likewise Interactive’s Login Security, with the sort of multidimensional acid that you just don’t hear any more.

Plasmotek’s Take It As It Come (sic) is also decent – restrained, bread-and-butter psytrance. Otherwise, there’s some terrible stuff (E-Fact’s The Code being prime suspect) and some very boring stuff (Skulptor’s Bio.) None of this is going to change the world, let’s be honest. And its sheer homogenousity (if that’s a word) means that it’s not likely to even be noticed.

Energy puts me in mind of those releases coming out a few years back – on Moon Spirits and the like – that made a half-promise of something decent which, in today’s climate, ought to be worth something.

Give this a sniff, you might just find something on there you like. Maybe.
