Fly – Transonic

Mino Vaknin, the name behind both the album and the label, has worked a stormer here. Denmark are on good form at the moment, and Fly offers a more intense, gripping sound than we’ve become used to from the Danes.

Straight from opening track Dancing With The Dragon, you know you’re in for a treat – a ballsy, confident, cinematic trancer with plenty of tension building up – and plenty of danceable groove to release it to. Cyber Sex is less like the digital orgasm implied by its title, and more like a deep battle against a huge electro-insecto-thing (which might be an orgasmic experience if you butter your bread that way.)

Capsulated is a frantic, all-out mechanoid attack, and Manushki makes use of a blistering groove and bags of distorted electric guitar to make a slightly-OTT heavy me(n)tal workout. Contagious is like a swarm of angry cyborg insects demanding blood (or something), a full-throttle descent of deep synth and dark echo, making for a sweltering 3am moment. There’s evidence here that Mino doesn’t just know how to move a crowd – he knows how to grab them by the scruff of their collective neck and throw them bouncing around the room.

Deep and awesome stuff, and closing with the epic downtempo rework of Dancing With The Dragon, you can tell he has a sublime sense of melody as well. Top marks to Mino: this is well worth checking out.
