Logic Bomb- Unlimited – Tip.World (UK)

My. This has been a long time coming. Their wicked live sets around the world in recent months have seen them propelled to higher and higher plains, and this uncommonly coherent artist album is already a prime contender for album of the year. Think futuristic. Think subtle melodies. Think effortless sonic manipulation. Think pure dancefloor tunes (but add intelligence.) Datalink opens proceedings with style, I’ve played this tune about three times a day since it came in. It’s atmospheric and tight, with perfect little samples driving the atmosphere along until a killer melody comes in for the Logic boys to tinker with, laying filters and textures all along the way.

Neighbour of the Beast continues in the same vein, some very crafty balancing of sounds makes it come alive. Future Uncertain has a killer lead line and an infectious high-end groove, and at High Density there’s barely a dry eye in the house. Take one fat kick, add lots of twist and a driving top-end building to the break, at which point introduce a killer vox lead and slam in a moody hammer horror melody for good measure.

Normalised is next up, a sweet downtempo tune with a cute rhythm and tempo that combines to give a spooky, meditative effect and the gorgeous cut-up vocals and sweet melodies make this a sublime uplifting bit of music. It’s significant too, that the obligatory downtempo tune isn’t chucked on at the end of the album as an afterthought (just like this bit in brackets was tacked onto that sentence.) Having the break in the middle puts a good progression on proceedings, and when the semi-chilled Compact Living kicks in, a refreshing and uplifting morning tune, the effect is top. After the sparse and spacey Hund, closing tune Drop By Anytime finishes things off with a semi-apocalyptic bang and the residual effect is a journey, not just a linear album.

Logic Bomb have pulled out all the stops here, creating a showcase of what they do best. Which is, pure and simple, taking you through emotions and inflections that are pure testament to what makes this music so brilliant.
