Autopilot / The Tracker – Sunset
Jacques Gelee
Blink and you’d miss this one. Because neither does the packaging nor title information convey the weirdbeat future-disco of this 12″.
Autopilot is Detroit techno on DMT, with warped stabs, a very quirky bass and chummy percussion. Sounds come in and out all the time, and it’s more a case of techno-producer turns psychedelic than psytrance producer turns techno. This is a sound tune packed with those sparks of innovation and imagination that are hard to come by these days.
The Tracker takes a heavy, thuddy, rolling bass and adds batman stabs and a moody drone over nifty drums. This is hefty stuff, scarey and stepping like a dinosaur with a bad hangover-headache. And unfortunately it borders on the unlistenable.
