Various Artists Next Generations Sphere / Ajuca (UK)

Sphere's new compilation features nine mostly-sample-laden new tracks. Viktan’s Can’t You Read My Mind kicks off with a driving bass line along with lots of wicked noises and effects popping in and out all over it as the track progresses. Nice tune. Quantum’s Voxi Way starts with a spoken sample (might be Chistopher Lee?) then in kicks the rolling bass line. Quite dark and atmospheric with lots of recognisable samples to keep the trainspotters happy! Vibe Tribe’s Play The Game fratures another driving bass line with a melodic riff floating over the top. Some nice pace changes to keep the trancefloor happy, and it builds up to a nice finalie. As for Point Blank Range whoa, full on morning tune, filled with effects, and a bassline that hooks you right on in. And the breakdown and what follows it....you'll like it!V.O.I’s Sunny Day is a very happy, bouncy effect-riddled tune that bubbles and fizzes along nicely. Just like a sunny day in fact. Citixen S’s C02 is very much in the Classical Mushroom vein and is a very cool, listenable tune which will rock the dance floor, but is just as enjoyable in the safety (!?!) of your own armchair. Lots of guitar with a very familliar sounding main riff. Can't work out where it's from or what inspired it-and believe me, I have searched. Another one for the trainspotters.QNA’s Hellfire  is a dark, nightime dancefloor creeper with a pounding bassline to keep you groovin'. Sigma’s Mind Effect is a tune with some very cool samples indeed, and has a bit of an old skool goa / Germanic trance feel to it in places.Viktan’s Falcon gives a nod to fellow Israeli act Infected Mushroom on a track which has some nice distorted guitar work rocking around with the bass. In all a neat compilation of varied tracks from some of the newer music producers on the scene. If the quality of these tunes is anything to go by then the future of Psy Trance is very rosy indeed.
