Various Amazon Turbotrance (France)

If you’re often moaning that there’s nothing psychedelic enough for you around at the moment, then your prayers have been answered. Stella Nutella compiles a sweet selection of organic, liquid trance. Clear Vision from Chameleon – one part Bamboo Forest, one part Ninja – kicks off, a vibrant bit of herbal soup with crunch, kick and clatter that never loses the plot and always stays tight. Mark Allen and Tim Healy’s Quixotic act turns up DM-Trumps with Evangelica, a deliciously weird and very different slide down a hallucinogenic helter skelter with killer synth smashing at the end. Aphid Moon goes for a more stripped-down vibe in Funk that doesn’t take itself exactly what you’d call seriously… not sure if it’s actually good or not but it’s certainly different. Triptych’s reworked tribal remix of Cranky Stevie is fast and furious, after which Tortured Brain vs. Sterilizer stir up the lysergic cauldron with Totally Fucked --- and what a belter. If you manage to listen to this without turning it up, there’s something seriously wrong with you: acidlines run like ribbons, layered samples fit in an oldskool sample-house vibe, bags of energy, and a really big grin on its face. Turbotrance favourite Hyper Frequencies is present and very much correct with Robotomix, which is just as furious, dark and sticky as you’d expect. Etnica make a reasonably rare showing with Liquid Forms, with a sticky wibble over a growly backbone that suffers from rather flat and uncolourful production… Tristan & Jon Om produce a rather special tune with Future Fizz, that seems to take on a mind of its own as it escalates and peaks almost by accident, trust me this will seriously have you going for it big style: the final section is bliss and there’s more sparks flying off this than pretty much anything else around at the moment. Ticon rounds things off nicely with the set-back-to-earth Obi Not The One Kanobi – as playful as its name suggests, with trademark Ticon layering and massaging. All in all then, nine tunes of which five are absolute belters, the best stuff around at the moment, and the others are alright. The maths alone makes Amazon a worthy purchase.
