H.S. Oregano / Landscape Bazooka 10 (Germany)

H.S. is Har-El Prusky (California Sunshine, Adrenalin Drum)and Sharon Jackobson, and this release on Bazooka 10 is an oddity. Oregano has a linear, clubby texture but it’ more than meets the eye. The sounds evolve and morph like vintage R&S / Soma techno, and it’s hugely listenable with generous, immaculately-produced pads, happy twists and nice filters. The sort of thing you might dance to at dawn, with the sun warming up your face. It’s nostalgic in a Jam & Spoon way, whereas Landscape on the flip is an embarassment. It’s darker and has a real Berlin feel to it, a menacing low end and a high-end that juxtaposes it. The effect here is really one that should have come out years ago – there’s nothing here that would date it past 1993, and while that’s he reason you love Oregano, here it’s just dull.
