Beware of Fake Gurus - Jubilee

Deeper... deeper... no, bit deeper... and again... go on... bit deeper again... there. THAT’s how deep Deep Dive Corp go, and this CD (packaged in a weird and wonderful improvisation on the jewel case theme) blends the melodic sensibilities of Jam & Spoon at their best, with a fusion of live instrumentation with sunny downtempo house, and effortless lounge-hop. Got that? Good. Gran Curuzon is a sweet guitar-led bit of dub to open proceedings, and Rhodes First is a perfect example of the aforementioned fusion – lounge jazz, dub, house (and silly vocals) are all mashed together and (luckily) it works. Sister is smooth trip-hop with soulful vocals and a glossy finish, and Delhi News is morning-dancefloor-friendly, sitar-led Eastern jazz-trance(TM). Some moments (notably here on out) tinker and twiddle away into nothingness, which is all well and good for the backroom/background moments. But whichever way you look at it these guys are on fire, and the unique, confident music on this album is impressive. And deep. Don’t forget, deep. 3
