Power Up Remixes - Yo Yo / BNE

Old Avi Algranati came from relative obscurity a few years ago and made a huge splash on the trance scene with his no-frills, kick-ass psychedelic trance. His tunes have always had a nice organic kick, and seem to drag energy right from the ether at just the right moment to get those feet stomping the way they should. Happily, Power Up (first single from forthcoming album of same name) follows the thread perfectly. From the outset it rocks, using a cute high-end springboard to drive to the break. A wonderful, soaring cut-up vocal line forms the midsection – kind of shpongle-like, but hey who cares when it gets the pulses racing and tears of joy flowing like this. A soaring acid passage later, said vocal line comes back into play for a chunky and fun peak. Perpetual remixer Oforia offers a good interpretation, with thundering bass, more cut-up vocals and tantalising 303’s leading to a nicely elevating break. Finally Psycraft’s remix features a lot of manipulation of the sounds, underpinned by Psycraft’s trademark groove. It thunks its way to the break, picks up some sweet guitar drops, then that vocal hook comes in again, giving way to one of the most powerful, subtle melodies eve heard in trance. A total f***ing delight – Power Up indeed. 4
