Irresistible Meltdown - Plusquam

Compiled by Hamburg DJ’s Mapusa Mapusa & Fabio, this compilation of smooth n’ funky progressive cuts is pretty awesome. It’s got a fresh take on progressive trance, opting for tunes with character and texture and creating a thoroughly enjoyable sound experience. Think the breezy carefree sound of Atmos at his best, and you’re not far off. Auricular’s Flight Control kicks things off with a nice, atmospheric tune with a spring-heeled quantized feel. Buxxmonx’s Radiation is a delight, an awesomely nice and laid back tune with a dubby, housey feel and with prefect balance that has the overall effect of a tune that’s happy doing what it’s doing whether you’re there with it or not. Shaman’s Retrospect is another classic, with melodies layering up and up, creating a wonderful, breezy vibe with plenty of rumbling bass to keep those feet moving; an addictive tune you just want to keep hearing again and again. Basskissen from Segment builds up nicely, into a vacuum-like trance workout with playful analogue sounds over a bass-heavy kick, and Alegria’s Bitaloon is a trancer that works like a house track, with vocal hooks and hiccups, smooth synths and plenty of surprises. With Slugger’s Bomberclad rounding things off in a stoned digidub-house fashion, overall this is a quality, immaculately-produced compilation that has a wonderful vibey consistency to it, and is one of the better progressive / minimal albums in a long time.
